الْغَفُورُ
Al-Ghafur
The One who pardons sins and forgives the faults of those who repent, covering their transgressions with His mercy.
Bakara 2:173
Al-Ghafur declares that Allah forgives much and continually—like Al-Ghaffar, but the emphasis here falls on 'scope': every sin great or small is covered. In Surah az-Zumar 39:53 Allah says: 'Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of Allah's mercy. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.' This verse is the greatest glad tiding for the believer. The servant who reflects on this name does not despair however grave their sin—they turn to Allah in sincere tawbah, and entrust the past's burden to His mercy. Al-Ghafur forgives even the most distant servant.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'If you were not to commit sins, Allah would replace you with a people who would commit sins and seek His forgiveness—and He would forgive them.'
