الْحَلِيمُ
Al-Halim
The One who does not hasten to punish, exercising great patience and tolerance with the shortcomings of His servants.
Bakara 2:225
Al-Halim declares that Allah is not hasty; He does not respond to His servants' faults with immediate punishment but grants time for patience and repentance. In Surah al-Baqarah 2:225 He says: 'Allah will not call you to account for unintentional oaths, but for what your hearts have earned. Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing (Halim).' Al-Halim gives even the oppressor time; should they repent, He accepts. The servant who reflects on this name learns to forgive those who harm them, meeting them with patience and hilm. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not curse even his enemies; instead he said: 'O Allah, guide my people.'
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was wounded at Uhud and blood ran from his face, he was saying: 'O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.'
