Al-Majid
The One who abounds in honour and generosity, unmatched in nobility and magnanimity.
Al-Majid declares that Allah's glory is exalted, His generosity vast, and His honor without limit. It comes from the same root as Al-Mecid (#49) but with a nuance: Mecid is 'the loftiness of glory,' while Majid is 'loftiness joined with bounty and generosity.' In Prophet Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) du'a it is said: 'Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious' (Hud 11:73). The servant who reflects on this name remembers Allah's majesty and generosity together—their awe and love come into balance. They approach in supplication with both reverence and hope.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah is modest (Hayyi) and Generous (Karim); when a servant raises their hands to Him, He is shy of turning them back empty.'
