Al-Mani'
The One who withholds what He wills and shields His servants from harm through His protective power.
Al-Mani' declares that Allah withholds whatever He wills from whomever He wills—He does not give when He does not will to give. This name is held in pair with Al-Mu'ti (the Giver): Allah both gives and withholds; both are for the good of His servants. Sometimes Allah withdraws what He has given, or does not give what we ask for—this is Al-Mani''s grace; He may be preventing a harm we do not see. The servant who reflects on this name finds good even in unanswered requests—beneath every withholding lies a wisdom.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to pray: 'O Allah, none can withhold what You have given, and none can give what You have withheld.'
