الْمُقِيتُ
Al-Muqit
The One who provides sustenance to every living being, nourishing both bodies and souls.
Nisâ 4:85
Al-Muqit declares that Allah measures and delivers the sustenance of every living being—the provision and everything needed for the continuance of life. In Surah an-Nisa' 4:85 He says: 'Allah is, over all things, the Maintainer.' The word means both 'Provider' and 'Sustainer of all existence.' Al-Muqit forgets neither an ant, nor a whale's calf, nor a child not yet born. The servant who reflects on this name is released from worry over their own or their loved ones' provision—placing trust in Allah and binding the heart only to His bounty.
'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'If you were to truly rely upon Allah, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds: they go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return in the evening with full ones.'
