الرَّحِيمُ
Ar-Rahim
The One whose special mercy is reserved for believers in the Hereafter, showing abundant compassion to those who turn to Him in faith.
Fâtiha 1:1
Ar-Rahim denotes Allah's special mercy reserved for the believers—manifest in the acceptance of repentance, the forgiveness of sins, and the granting of paradise in the Hereafter. Paired with Ar-Rahman in the basmala that opens nearly every chapter of the Qur'an, this name teaches the servant never to despair. No matter how grave the sin, the door of repentance remains open to those who turn back to Him in sincerity.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah has one hundred portions of mercy. One of them He has sent down among jinn, humans, and all creatures—through it they show compassion to one another. The remaining ninety-nine He has kept with Himself, to show mercy to His servants on the Day of Judgment.'
