الرَّقِيبُ
Ar-Raqib
The One who observes all things at every moment, from whom nothing escapes notice.
Nisâ 4:1
Ar-Raqib declares that Allah continuously watches over every thing and every servant, never losing them from sight for even a moment. In Surah an-Nisa' 4:1, while reminding people of their universal brotherhood, Allah says: 'Indeed, Allah is over you a Watcher.' Ar-Raqib differs from Al-Basir: Al-Basir is 'the One who sees,' while Ar-Raqib is 'the One who keeps watch'—the continuity of the action is emphasized. The servant who reflects on this name keeps the same honesty even where no cameras are present—because Ar-Raqib watches at every moment. Even when a child's mother, an employee's manager, or a customer's seller is absent, Ar-Raqib is present.
Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about ihsan. He replied: 'It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, for though you do not see Him, indeed He sees you.'
