السَّمِيعُ
As-Sami'
The One who hears all things perfectly—every sound, whisper, and supplication, whether hidden or manifest.
Bakara 2:127
As-Sami' declares that Allah hears every voice, every whisper, and every silent prayer that passes through the heart; no sound between the heavens and the earth escapes His knowledge. When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was building the Ka'bah, he closed his supplication with: 'Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing' (Al-Baqarah 2:127). The servant who reflects on this name guards their tongue from backbiting and harsh speech—because Allah hears. At the same time, they petition Him with hope, knowing the secret prayer is also heard. As-Sami' fills the heart with both reverence and trust.
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: During a journey the Companions began saying takbir loudly. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Be gentle with yourselves! For you are not calling upon One who is deaf or distant; you are calling upon the One who hears, sees, and is near to you.'
