سورة الغاشية
Surah Al-Ghashiyah is the 88th surah of the Quran, comprising 26 verses. It treats the overwhelming event of the Day of Judgment, the faces divided on that Day, the signs of creation spread through the world, and the Prophet's role as one who reminds. It opens with the question 'Has the news of the Overwhelming reached you?' and then sets two scenes side by side: faces humbled, worn out, entering a scorching fire, and faces content and joyful in a lofty garden. The gaze then turns earthward: the camel, the sky, the mountains, and the earth are listed as signs inviting reflection. The surah declares the Prophet only a reminder, with no power of compulsion over people, and closes with the assurance that the return and the reckoning belong to God alone.
Surah Al-Ghashiyah is Meccan, generally dated to the early years of the Meccan period, when belief in the Hereafter was met with scorn. It is a characteristic example of the early Meccan style, joining warning through scenes of the Last Day with reflection on the signs of creation; no specific occasion of revelation has been transmitted.
Its main themes are the Day of Judgment, the contrasting depictions of Hell and Paradise, reflection on the universe, and the limits of conveying the message. The faces clothed in humiliation or in delight on that Day (88:2-16) give the two-sided reality of the Hereafter concrete form. The passage beginning 'Do they not look at the camel, how it was created?' (88:17-20) presents observation as a path leading to faith. 'You are only a reminder; you are not a controller over them' (88:21-22) states a foundational principle for the ethics of calling to faith. The closing assurance that to God is their return and upon Him is their account (88:25-26) seals the surah.
Authentic sources relate that the Prophet recited Surah Al-Ghashiyah together with Surah Al-A'la in the Friday and Eid prayers; this practice has made it one of the most familiar sounds of congregational worship.
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ
Her şeyi kaplayacak kıyametin haberi sana gelmedi mi
وُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ
O gün bir takım yüzler zillete bürünmüştür
عَامِلَةࣱ نَّاصِبَةࣱ
Zor işler altında bitkin düşmüştür
تَصۡلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةࣰ
Yakıcı ateşe yaslanırlar
تُسۡقَىٰ مِنۡ عَيۡنٍ ءَانِيَةࣲ
Kızgın bir kaynaktan içirilirler
لَّيۡسَ لَهُمۡ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعࣲ
Semirtmeyen, açlığı gidermeyen kötü kokulu (kuru) bir dikenden başka yiyecekleri yoktur
لَّا يُسۡمِنُ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِن جُوعࣲ

Yaptıklarından hoşnuddurlar
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةࣲ
Yüksek bir cennettedirler
لَّا تَسۡمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةࣰ
Orada boş söz işitmezler
فِيهَا عَيۡنࣱ جَارِيَةࣱ
Orada akan kaynak vardır
فِيهَا سُرُرࣱ مَّرۡفُوعَةࣱ
Orada, yükseltilmiş tahtlar vardır
وَأَكۡوَابࣱ مَّوۡضُوعَةࣱ
Yerleştirilmiş kaseler
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصۡفُوفَةࣱ
Sıra sıra yastıklar
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبۡثُوثَةٌ
Serilmiş, yumuşak tüylü halılar vardır
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِبِلِ كَيۡفَ خُلِقَتۡ
Bu insanlar, devenin nasıl yaratıldığına, göğün nasıl yükseltildiğine, dağların nasıl dikildiğine, yerin nasıl yayıldığına bir bakmazlar mı
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيۡفَ رُفِعَتۡ

وَإِلَى ٱلۡجِبَالِ كَيۡفَ نُصِبَتۡ

فَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرࣱ
Sen öğüt ver! Esasen sen sadece bir öğütçüsün
لَّسۡتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِمُصَيۡطِرٍ
Sen, onlara zor kullanacak değilsin
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
Ama kim yüz çevirir, inkar ederse, Allah onu en büyük azaba uğratır
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرَ

إِنَّ إِلَيۡنَآ إِيَابَهُمۡ
Doğrusu onların dönüşü Bize'dir
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا حِسَابَهُم
Şüphesiz sonra hesaplarını görmek de Bize düşmektedir
