Surah At-Takwir is the eighty-first surah of the Quran, comprising twenty-nine verses on the unravelling of the cosmic order on the Last Day, the laying bare of deeds, and the trustworthiness of revelation. Opening with twelve scenes — the sun folded up, the stars dimmed, the mountains set moving, the seas set boiling — it resolves the upheaval into a single sentence: on that Day every soul will know what it has brought. The question to be put to the infant girl buried alive, asking for what sin she was killed, stands among the Quran's most piercing affirmations of human dignity. A second section then proclaims the integrity of the messenger who bore the revelation. For readers today the surah is an unforgettable reminder that the world's seemingly permanent order will one day be rolled up, leaving only the deeds one has prepared.
At-Takwir is a Meccan surah, generally assigned to the early Meccan years. Revealed in a climate where the source of revelation was being impugned and baseless charges circulated about the Prophet, its second section affirms that the Quran is the word brought by a noble emissary — Gabriel — that the Prophet saw him on the clear horizon, and that he was no madman.
The first section strings together twelve scenes of the Last Day: the sun folded, the stars scattered, the wild beasts herded together, the scrolls of deeds unrolled, Paradise brought near — until "every soul will know what it has brought" (81:14). The question awaiting the girl buried alive (81:8-9) condemns the cruelty of the pre-Islamic age and declares that the right of the wronged is never lost. The second section swears by the receding stars and the breaking dawn that the Quran was brought by a mighty, trusted emissary (81:19-23). The surah closes by announcing itself a reminder for all the worlds, "for whoever among you wills to walk straight" (81:27-28).
A narration in the Sunan of al-Tirmidhi commends the recitation of Surahs At-Takwir, Al-Infitar, and Al-Inshiqaq to whoever wishes to behold the Day of Resurrection as if with his own eyes. At-Takwir has accordingly been a frequent recitation of believers seeking to keep the awareness of the Hereafter vivid.
إِذَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ كُوِّرَتۡ
Güneş dürülüp ışığı kalmadığı zaman
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتۡ
Yıldızlar düşüp, söndüğü zaman
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتۡ
Doğurması yaklaşmış develer başıboş bırakıldığı zaman
وَإِذَا ٱلۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡ

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتۡ
Canlar bedenlerle birleştirildiği zaman
وَإِذَا ٱلۡمَوۡءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتۡ

بِأَيِّ ذَنۢبࣲ قُتِلَتۡ

Cennet yaklaştırıldığı zaman
عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسࣱ مَّآ أَحۡضَرَتۡ
İnsanoğlu önceden ne hazırladığını görecektir
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلۡخُنَّسِ

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولࣲ كَرِيمࣲ

ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي ٱلۡعَرۡشِ مَكِينࣲ

Arkadaşınız (Muhammed) asla deli değildir
وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ
And olsun ki, o, Cebrail'i apaçık ufukta görmüştür
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلۡغَيۡبِ بِضَنِينࣲ
Peygamber, görülmeyenler hakkında söylediklerinden ötürü töhmet altında tutulamaz
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَيۡطَٰنࣲ رَّجِيمࣲ
Bu Kuran, kovulmuş şeytanın sözü olamaz
فَأَيۡنَ تَذۡهَبُونَ
Nereye gidiyorsunuz
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرࣱ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَسۡتَقِيمَ
