سورة قريش
Surah Quraysh is the 106th surah of the Quran; it consists of four verses and addresses blessing, security, and gratitude. The surah reminds Quraysh, the ruling tribe of Mecca, of two great favors: the safety of their trade caravans and the security of life around the Sacred House. It declares that the true source of these blessings is Allah, the Lord of the Kaaba, and that gratitude is owed through worshipping Him alone. It forms a thematic pair with Surah Al-Fil, which precedes it in the mushaf: the God who protected the Kaaba is the same God who feeds and protects those who live around it. For readers today, the surah is a brief but pointed reminder that prosperity and safety are trusts that call for worship, not achievements that justify pride.
Surah Quraysh is Meccan, generally placed in the early Meccan period, and reads as a natural continuation of Surah Al-Fil. Its backdrop is the well-known trading life of Quraysh: the winter caravan to Yemen and the summer caravan to Syria, on which Mecca's livelihood depended. The surah takes this familiar reality and turns it into a call to worship the Lord of the Kaaba.
The surah's central theme is the bond between blessing and gratitude. Verses 106:1-2 mention the secure trading journeys of winter and summer as a divine favor; 106:3 issues the call to worship the Lord of this House; and 106:4 recalls that it is Allah who fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear. Material security is thus framed not as a self-made accomplishment but as a trust that obligates worship and thanks.
